The Ultimate Investment Research Guide: 25+ Trusted Sources for Smart Investors
We’re all tired of browsing the internet only to be bombarded with ads and miraculous promises from gurus and “false prophets.” So what happened to the truth? What happened to statistically proven facts? Where can we find reliable sources?
When you search online, you’ll find millions of websites, and it seems like all valuable content and information is locked behind monthly subscriptions or courses where you pay $999, promising that the Library of Alexandria will be instantly downloaded into your brain.
I’ve been thinking about this problem, and I want to share real solutions with you. These are sources of crystal-clear, reliable information – tools that represent what the internet was originally meant to be: connecting people and distributing knowledge.
Of course, nobody here is naive. We all know that everyone needs to pay their bills. Each creator must find the best way to monetize their ideas and the value they bring to the world. I’m not against that at all. I just firmly believe that before charging a single penny, we should help massively and spread knowledge freely. That’s my goal.
The Problem We’re Facing
The internet has become cluttered with paywalls, get-rich-quick schemes, and information hoarding. Quality financial education and market data shouldn’t be exclusively available to those who can afford premium subscriptions.
That’s why I’ve decided to share my “treasure chest” – these are the sources I use daily, along with a handful of books and carefully selected newsletters from specific personalities (nothing that clutters my inbox).
25+ Essential Investment Research Tools
Core Financial Data Sources
Yahoo Finance – If you’ve had internet access since the 2000s, you’ve probably stumbled upon this site. It’s a rich source of data with assets from around the world, various financial tools, and of course, a news portal.
Google Finance – Similar to Yahoo Finance in providing data, but it goes further by delivering news, company calendars, and portfolio tracking capabilities.
Uncle Stock – Here’s one you probably didn’t expect! This site focuses on fundamental analysis and was developed because the founder, an investor himself, felt there was a lack of sites with relevant data for research. You can test it for a while – I used it and highly recommend it.
Finviz – If you love macroeconomics and want to understand and study the main assets of the New York Stock Exchange, this site is for you. Nothing but praise!
Trading Economics – These folks know how to build great things. If I had to choose only one site to use, it would be this one, as it covers both macro and microeconomics. For basic users like me, the freemium version serves you very well. The pro version has incredible features (but you need to be earning well already).
Chart Analysis & Technical Tools
TradingView – This tool is essential in every investor’s arsenal. It has many charts and is extremely customizable. I try to keep things simple, so I don’t use charts with many accessories – just the basics that work.
Quantpedia – Want to invest with quantitatively proven strategies? With scientific validation and real backtests? Click here and thank me later. Worth every penny invested. I used an oil strategy I found there that yielded me 29% in one year.
Economic Data & Market Intelligence
Numbeo – Ever wondered why every year the market gets more expensive, gas prices rise, and you have to work more? Sometimes you want to travel to another country and are unsure about the cost of living, or you simply have plans to migrate. Click here and research. It has prices from bananas to jeans, city by city.
Fundamentus – This is one of my favorite sites. I’ve been using it since 2013, learning a lot. I love the simplicity and robustness of the fundamental data. (Note: Primarily for Brazilian markets)
Oceans14 – Here we have Fundamentus’s twin brother. It has some additional features. The dollar-denominated quotes and bank information are very relevant. (Note: Primarily for Brazilian markets)
Statista – One of the best research tools available. You can calculate the Big Mac Index and iPad Index with it. Revenue estimates and even Big Brother Brasil revenue, year after year. Very worthwhile if you know how to interpret the data.
Expert Analysis & Newsletters
Lyn Alden – This woman was a great find in recent years. She writes well, invests well, is tuned into trends, and doesn’t flood your email inbox. Her monthly newsletters are raw diamonds.
PlanBTC – What can I say about PlanB? Think of a combination of simplicity and richness of detail. This guy has been predicting Bitcoin prices with his S2F (Stock-to-Flow) model for years, and few people pay attention to what this market veteran has been saying.
GuruFocus – Here you have delayed access to SEC 13F filings (USA). Basically, it’s a report that must be submitted by investment managers with over $100M quarterly. I follow Mohnish Pabrai and David Tepper closely.
Portfolio Management & Tracking
Investidor10 – Create your portfolio and monitor it there. That’s it. (Note: Primarily for Brazilian markets)
Morningstar – Excellent source of US data. Very worthwhile for cross-referencing data with Finviz, Trading Economics, and Yahoo Finance.
News & Market Analysis
Bloomberg – One of the world’s largest investment news portals.
Al Jazeera – This was a pleasant surprise from my fiancée. Founded in 1996, it’s the largest Arab news portal and one of the largest in the world. Praised for its commitment to journalism. Essential for daily use.
Viver de Dividendos – I’ve been following VDD’s work for years and am very inspired by what he built. We ended up following similar professional paths, but as investors, we’re like north and south. (Note: Portuguese content)
Advanced Research Tools
Fintel – New recommendation that seemed sensible to add here.
FinBox – Another new addition here. Worth dissecting the site and testing.
Value Investors Club – Exclusive investment ideas from qualified investors.
Aswath Damodaran’s Blog – What can we say about the professor? I’ve taken several of his summer courses since 2013. The man knows a lot and has my respect and admiration.

YouTube Channels Worth Following
Finaius – Seriously, this guy should be hired by Netflix or HBO. The documentaries he produces are insane. I recently watched ones about Saudi Aramco and the Vatican, and they were wonderful.
Dynamic Trading with Robert Miner – We’re talking about a three-time world forex champion, a wise gentleman whom I make sure to watch whenever he releases a new video. He was the first I saw who measured time for his investments and can achieve accuracy above 51%.

The Real Secret to Investment Success
The secret to making things work in life comes down to three things: work, study, and persistence. When someone offers you quick and easy money, run and check if your wallet is still with you. Don’t fall for scams and gambler’s fallacies.
My job here is to bring a beam of light to those who are lost in this immensity of information that can blind us. I’ll do my best to organize and present what has worked and continues to work for me.
